Doctor Sally — P. G. Wodehouse

My first Wodehouse. So quaint, yet so hilariously clever. I want to read more, but he only wrote about 90 books so I’ll have to pace myself.

That was my first P.G. Wodehouse book, too! I had borrowed it from a friend. It was published in the ’60’s and falling apart. So I carefully read it and got a quite a few hearty chuckles out of it. Smiling all throughout my read. I wish I could find a copy for myself! I’ve looked everywhere. Even the Library of Congress’ copy no. 1 is missing, and the second copy is stored offsite. only has it on audio-tape. I miss that book! I have read a few more Wodehouse since. My second book, which I found later, was “Quick Service.” “The Code of the Woosters” is fall over funny! “The Adventures of Sally” is very good, too.

Yes, I just checked and my wife’s copy of Doctor Sally was published in 1959. She says that even if you can’t find a copy, “they’re all great — it doesn’t matter which one you buy.”
My wife is collecting the Everyman hardback editions of Wodehouse’s novels. Forty-eight have been published so far — I’m sure Doctor Sally will come out in Everyman within the next year or five!
