    Thunder Guy,

Excellent explanation of Japanese learning in your ‘So You Want To Learn Japanese?’ commentary. The classmates section especially rings true. I was beginning to think I was the only normal person interested in studying Japanese (Can you be truly normal and study Japanese?) I think it is also important to note one interesting aspect of the language you didn’t mention – The fact that there is a point on the Japanese language learning curve where the more you study the less capable you will be. I have reached that point. For every new word I learn I lose whole blocks of grammatical ability. I figure at my current pace by the time my eight-month old half-Japanese/half-American child is old enough to speak with me I will be reduced to simple nouns, ‘desu’ and finger pointing.

    Keep up the good work.

As someone who has been studying Japanese daily for the past 6 years, I thought I was going to die laughing through most of this. It’s all absolutely true. And the sad thing is, I keep coming back for more of the pain.

I doubt you will ever see this comment, but thanks for the laugh.
