When I arrived back in Australia after four years in Scotland I had a lot of re-acquainting to do. Here are the top ten things I didn’t think I’d miss about Australia, but am glad to see again.<\/p>\n

10. Hype.<\/h3>\n

You thought Edinburgh’s Hogmanay was big; check out Sydney 2000!<\/p>\n

9. Clan Analogue.<\/h3>\n

Oz techno\/experimental\/weirdo music collective.<\/p>\n

8. Tim Tams.<\/h3>\n

Chocolate-coated iced chocolate biscuits for dunking in coffee<\/p>\n

7. The Simpsons.<\/h3>\n

Three episodes of The Simpsons every Sunday on Channel Ten.<\/p>\n

6. Asian food.<\/h3>\n

Thai, Korean, Vietnamese and Indonesian restaurants everywhere.<\/p>\n

5. Cheese-on-a-Stick.<\/h3>\n

Showbags and Cheese-on-a-Stick at the Royal Sydney Easter Show.<\/p>\n

4. Chicken salt.<\/h3>\n

Contains no chicken. Tastes nothing like chicken. It’s great!<\/p>\n

3. Flat white coffee.<\/h3>\n

Australia’s contribution to global coffee culture.<\/p>\n

2. Bats.<\/h3>\n

Flying around at night. “Squee! Squeeee!”<\/p>\n

And the number 1 thing I didn’t think I’d miss about Australia, but am glad to see again:<\/p>\n
