Here's another good way to be inscrutable. At some point in any conversation, drop in a completely irrelevant analogy, then leave. Everyone else can then discuss its meaning inconclusively amongst themselves, and will decide that you have some special insight into the topic that nobody else quite understands. Your reputation as a brilliant and original thinker will be strengthened. This technique reminds me of the other day when I saw two trees next to each other in a storm; one had fallen down, but the other was still standing. Don't you think?
