Frangipani, thanks for the link. And good luck!
I met this man in japan who’s trying to sponsor me in getting my tourist visa.I just want to know if getting a part-time job there is eligible with just a tourist visa in hand and can you suggest any type of job that can accept me?Thanks! I would gladly appreciate your help.
Mich, you are not allowed to work on a temporary visa. There’s a fair amount of information elsewhere on this site about various job options — the comments made by other visitors could be useful to you as well.
Hey Bennett – Am an Indian national and am getting married to a Japanese national. Would u have any idea the documents that i need to produce to the city office in order to get married. I have been trying to dig information, but unfortunately, i am still clueless on what documents are required. I would be visiting the indian embassy too. But would be great if you have any idea about the documents required. Or just me and my passport would do? Arigato.
If my spouse is a airline pilot how long is his working visa for? Does he need to get out of the country to maintain his working visa. He has been there since July 2005. He told me, he has to get out of the country in order to update his visa.
Hi Bennett,
I am a engineer currently working in Japan. My VISA had a validity of 1 year. This is my second time that I have come to Japan on that VISA. I also have a re-entry permit.
Now my VISA was almost about to expire(20 Feb) and so I have given my passport to my employer for getting the VISA extended. But I learnt that there was a delay on the part of my employer and although the passport has now been submitted to the Japanese Consulate, I will not be able to get back my passport before 20th Feb (the end date of my earlier VISA).
My question is that is it legal to stay in Japan even after 20th Feb. and can I still work?
My worry is that if a police guy asks me to show my passport, I dont have it since it has been submitted for extension (and they have not given any reciept for that). My Alien Registration Card also expires on 20th Feb.
Please advice.
What is the procedure and requirements in obtaining a dependent visa for my husband? Do I need to get a cert. of eligibility first. Thank you very much!
Hello,
I have been working in Fukushima for the last year for a company that sponsored my work visa. I am now going to be moving to Tokyo and looking for another job. However, my visa will be expiring soon. I have been looking into extensions, tourist visa and more to try and find time to get my next job. I know I can find a job, but I need another month or so to finish up this job, get moved and start the next job. Thanks for any information or advice you have.
Scott.
Dear SIR,
I have awarded ADB Scholarship to do higher study in Japan. Can my husband go with me from tourist visa and can it change in to dependent visa after going to Japan.
Thanks
Ranjeev, the simplest thing to do is ask yourfiancee to call the local ward office and ask them. As I recall, somebody posted a comment somewhere on this site where they described the marriage process — it was pretty simple.
Joan, it is not necessary to leave Japan to renew a visa, but it usually is necessary in order to change visa status. Most working visas are issued for either one year or three years.
Scott, the usual strategy in your situation is to get your work visa renewed before leaving your first job. This gives you time to find the next job. The immigration status of people who are no longer employed by their work visa sponsor is a bit unclear, so it would be best not to spend too long without work in this situation.
I hope you can help me out with this one. A few years ago I got my passport revolked and have been doing what I can to get it back. At the time I still had 2 years left on my human realtions visa so I asked a legal aid if it would be ok if I stayed in Japan even if i don’t have a current passport. The answer I got was basically is if I didn’t into any trouble and as long as I work and have a visa then there isn’t a problem. Well there is a problem now…….or should I say a good and bad thing….one I’m getting my passport back in about a month or so but it looks like my visa will expire before that happens. So my question is can I be able to extend my vise even with out a passport?
Any advise would be cool

Neo, your cousin should contact the Japanese embassy to see if he can apply for Japanese citizenship. If he gets it he will soon have to give up any other citizenships he may have.

Hello there to anyone with legal knowledge
I am a british citizen wanting to go to japan on a working holiday visa but…I have a criminal record, although its only a monor offence for using (abusive language). It happened 3 years ago so do you think I would be granted a visa?

Bob: Unfortunately, one of the Conditions of the Working Holiday Programme is that you must not have a criminal record.
hello everybody!
Just need little help here!….I’m an engineer working here in Japan and I want to bring my wife. Last february of this year, I applied for her certificate of eligibility to make the application of her dependent visa in Philippines much faster. But the problem is, until now the COE is not coming. As far as I’m concerned I submitted the all required documents needed. The immigration said that it will take a maximum of 3 months for it to be released. Is it possible that my application was rejected? what is the best thing to do right now?
hope u will give me some advice regarding my inquiry…
tnx!
