I am an engineer (Indian), going to Japan on 15 December. Presently, my consultant at Japan has applied for COE (Certificate of Eligibility) for myself and will apply for working visa very soon. And, I am planning to take my family (wife and kid) with me. But, for them still I have not applied for COE. So can I apply for temporary VISA for family and after going to Japan can I apply for COE and get the dependent visa for my family.

I wish to apply for a Dependent’s Visa. I would like to know a) can I apply for this in Japan, after arrival, b) if this is not possible, what documents does my husband need to supply in order to get a Certificate of Eligibility for me?
I had a phone conversation with the Chiba Immigration office, who referred me to the Tokyo Immigration office. However, I was unable to speak directly to anyone, and the recorded messages did not answer my question
Thank you for any help you might be able to give me.

We, the expatriate, are really cutting a sorry face when we come across the Japanese immigration officials. The Japanese immigration always make hill out of a mole. They makes simple things difficult & cumbersome and normally took weeks and sometime months while responding to simple and trivial questions. I went to their office with the request to extend validity period of my wife & kids visas as they could not board a flight to Japan due to some very legitimate reason within the validity period. I am waiting for the last five and the reply to me is still under process. What one can do in such circumstance, either wait or smash a head with a wall.
