    hello,
my partner and i are interested in coming to japan for a stay of 3-6 months. i know that i can get a working holiday permit as i am australian, but as he is brazilian, i’m not sure what visa he can apply for. we’re in a de-facto relationship, but i’m unsure if this will be recognised as a dependent relationship in japan.
please help. any advice will help.
    thanks!

Beth, I’m not sure what kind of visa your partner can get. He won’t qualify for a working holiday or a dependent visa. He might be able to get a visitor’s visa, but a working visa might be a bit harder.

I just applied for a working permit under dependent visa.
When I was filling out the form, I noticed that it was required to imply my work status, job-office description/address/payment etc.
Does this mean that if I get the work permit, I can only work at the specified job, and if for example I quit/get fired from this job and apply again for a new job, I have to apply for a work permit again?

Pushpika, normally your husband would qualify for a spouse visa. I don’t know if his overstay would affect that. It might be all right since it was a long time ago. But you really have to contact a Japanese embassy or the Immigration Information Centre to find out for sure.
