Joy, I have no first-hand knowledge of your kind of situation. But my impression (possibly mistaken) is that there are agencies that employ and sponsor caregivers. There do seem to be a fairly large number of Filipino caregivers and other domestic helpers in Japan; I presume they haven’t all done it all themselves.

I’ve been trying my luck for an english teaching job in Japan. I am most inclined in teaching toddler/ young children. I tried several times before but I was told that they need native english teacher. I finished a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.I am also a Basic Life Support and First Aid Instructor and a trained Emergency Medical Technician- Basic (Rescue 911). SO if I could not land in teaching I might as well try other things in line with my skills. Is there any chance for me?

I am from the Philippines. I am DELTA-certified and a graduate of Hotel & Restaurant Management.

Right now, my mother who is a permanent-resident in JP, is already working on my long-term visa. Is that an advantage?

I want to see if I could get an ELT job there because the demand is high and the salary is very competitive. As opposed to most foreigners think, is it really hard to find ELT jobs?

    Thanks.

    Hi!
I would really love to teach English in Japan, but I do not really know where to start. I have just finished studying for an MA in Postcolonial studies and would very much like to experience japanese culture after learning about it academically.

I am a native english speaker of African origin and have 4 months experience teaching adults with learning difficulties if that helps…? My first degree is in fashion promotions and Pr and I would like to eventually move in to a creative industry. Can you please help?

    Jan 2008.

Teaching jobs here in Japan are in short supply and the salaries have not gone up in over 5 years. For the `average` person you would be better off looking into countries such as Taiwan, China, India and perhaps Korea.

The Japanese market is bloated with teachers. The `customers` have grown weary of the big chains, such as NOVA and I think the success of those schools is decreasing.

The only exception would be if you are a female who is interested in teaching children. In that case you could find a job pretty easily, provided you aren`t too particular about where in Japan you end up. I suppose the other exception would be people who are looking to teach another language aside from English. I suppose there are a few of those to be had, but much less common.

So to those of you that want to come to Japan, I`d do it as a vacation and look elsewhere for employment.
